What brought The Dead Files to Flagstaff

In the spring of 2022, Travel Channel's The Dead Files came to Flagstaff for a two-hour season finale that aired on April 2, 2022. A downtown basement had been unsettling the people who worked above it for years, and the show's investigators wanted to know why.

The Arizona Daily Sun covered the episode before it aired: Freaky Foot Tours owner Nick Jones underwent paranormal testing on camera, and local author Susan Johnson told the story of the 1937 Walkup family murders, the case she would later publish a full book about.

Here's the part we like: the show came to the stories we had already researched. The locations in that episode sit on the Mountain Town of Madness route, and your guide has the details that never made the edit.

Guests photographing a historic downtown Flagstaff building at night on the tour

Stand where the cameras rolled

Television gets two hours. Your guide gets you, at night, standing on the sidewalk outside the buildings themselves. The basement that drew the show, the depot where a psychic's walkthrough produced a number locals still repeat, the hotel halls the episode could only gesture at: they're all on the route.

The episode is a good appetizer. The tour is the meal.
